COVERAGE AND ARRANGEMENT: Part 1 Capabilities, Trends and Economics. Entries arranged alphabetically by country within main world regions. Each region is prefaced with a descriptive account of major military developments and events of the previous year. Country entries give defence budgets, force breakdowns with personnel and equipment, reserves, and deployments. Each section concludes with tables of significant arms orders and deliveries. Part 1 chapter 9 lists UN and other deployments in 2007-2008, major training exercises, comparative defence expenditures and military manpower, and arms deliveries. Chapter 10 is a review of developments in the defence industries of the Asia Pacific region. Chapter 11 is an essay on UN peacekeeping after sixty years. A short article on trends in non-state activity 2007-2008 prefaces Part 2 Non-state Groups and Affiliates has tables with brief details of groups, origin, strengths, active locations, aims and remarks. Part 3 Reference features tables of aircraft designations, lists of abbreviations and indexes. A separate poster-sized "chart of conflict" gives details of past and on-going conflicts with supporting data e.g. fatalities, peace support operations, top U.N. troop contributing countries, and selected foreign military interventions. Map inside back cover details piracy incidents in seas around Somalia.
