520 _aThis article analyses the nature of the military coup that brought down the Thaksin government in September 2006. The article offers some provisional observations relating to the political economy of the coup how Thaksin's economic rise was perceived as a threat by some other capitalist groupings. The coup has also made democracy in Thailand increasingly fragile and precarious despite the fact that the junta promises to return democracy to the people.
