_ba comparative Southeast Asian perspective
260 _c2005
520 _aAssesses the post-authoritarian rule situation in Indonesia in the light of experiences of Thailand and the Philippines. However authoritarian forces are said to have insinuated themselves into the democratic processes and institutions thus subverting them to thier own ends. Suggests that the development of pro-democracy and civil society movements has been less pronounced in Indonesia because of the impact of the anti-communist massacres of 1965 that have no parallel in the other two countries.
