520 | _aThe changes explored in this issue all indicate that under Abe the practice of foreign and security policy have entered a new phase. Contrary to mainstream views in the literature, the significance of Abe's changes are not in the ability to tell whether Japan will be more militarily active in the future to support American military actions, or more dependent on the United States to deal with regional security. Both areas will require further research, particularly in regards to Japan's ability to widen its military behaviour beyond the realm of signalling and into more clearly articulated forms of deterrence and coercion. | ||
