To achieve the outcomes articulated in the White Paper, the Australian government needs to pay greater attention to conflict prevention and achieving sustainable peace, which are key tenets of the United Nation's Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda. As pieces of declaratory policy, defence and foreign policy white papers serve an important function of signalling to domestic and international audiences the interests, values and priorities of the state.
