520 _aAnalyses the impact of China's rise through the case study of China's multilateral relations with its Central Asian neighbours in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). It examines how China's rise affects regional stability in Central Asia. Through this study, this article then concludes that through the SCO, China can take on an increasingly active role in safeguarding security and promoting econominc and cultural development in its region and also to communities such as ASEAN. It also goes on to suggest that China and related countries within the community should actively continue to maintain and strengthen engagement policies and ensure that their own national interests are also addressed through this process.
