The story of the Vietnam War presented through the life of John Paul Vann who arrived in Vietnam in 1962 as a Lt Col, became disillusioned by the South Vietnamese atrocities and American arrogance and corruption, and resigned from the U.S. Army. He returned the vietnam as a civilian in the pacification programme. He became the first American civilian to hold a general's command and was killed in action in 1972.
