Study of several insurgencies to identify the tactics, techniques, and procedures used by both insurgents and counterinsurgents, and to draw conclusions that could be applied to twenty-first century counterinsurgency operations. The cases studied are: the Philippines 1899-1902, Algeria 1954-1962, Vietnam 1959-1972, El Salvador 1980-1992, Jammu and Kashmir 1947-present, and Columbia 1963-present. Each study considers the origins and characteristics of the insurgency, the strengths and weaknesses of the insurgents, the strengths and weaknesses of the counterinsurgents, and draws conclusions.
