Study of the role of Sir Frederick Sykes in the early development of the British Royal Air Force. Sykes took over as Chief of the Air Staff at the official birth of the RAF in 1918 from Lord Trenchard, his better known predecessor, who had insisted on resigning. In this book Sykes is credited with establishing the structure and training system which would ensure the future independence of the RAF.
