The Asia-Pacific profile

COVERAGE:Combines maps, diagrams, commentaries, documents, and statistical data on every State around and within the Pacific: North-East and South-East Asia; the Western rim of Central and South America; the Pacific Island States; the Russian Far East; North America; and Australasia.ARRANGEMENT:Part 1 includes 25 maps on such topics as State boundaries 1914; State boundaries 1950; The Pacific War 1941-45; Major armed conflicts since 1950; membership of regional organisations; defence expenditure 1985 and 1994; numbers in the armed forces 1985 and 1994. Part 2 provides a country by country digest of individual countries around the Pacific Rim, arranged alphabetically by country name. Each profile includes locator map, bulleted points on background history and current political framework, as well as sets of data for key variables. Comparative statistical tables of demographic, economic and statistical indicators are also appended. The next grouping of country by country digests covers the Russian Far East, Brunei, Pacific Islands, Melanesia, Micronesia, Polynesia and Anglonesia, again with appended statistical indicators. Part 3 contains the text of primary documents, with explanatory notes, which cover regional collaboration, post-war security, international organizations, and historical themes such as the Cold War.
