Study of how China's policy towards Darfur evolved from passivity to active persuasion and mediation. In doing so, says this article, China has strengthened its position by achieving increased local influence, reassured partners in Africa and the West, and safeguarded its commercial interests in Sudan (China imported almost half of all Sudan's oil production in 2006).
