The book follows the mixed fortunes of the movement since then up to the year 2006 when the value of cadet forces had once again been established. Four foundational requirements are said to be necessary for the cadet force to flourish (or indeed survive), these are: the mainstream military organisation, the educational system, social attitudes, and a supply of recruits. Federal party politics and the continuing divide between state and private schools are said to be overarching influences. Notes, bibliography, index ER -
