Rumsfeld's wars : the arrogance of power / Dale R Herspring - Lawrence KS : University Press of Kansas, 2008 - xxiv, 247 p.

Highly critical account of Donald Rumsfeld during his time in office as U.S. Secretary of Defence. Analyses why Rumsfeld's actual effect was so devastatingly bad when he seemed to be the right man for the job. The author states in the introduction "that this is a book about the politics of political-military decision making". In particular it considers the interactions between Rumsfeld and his close associates and the military leadership, and what happened when the former group tried to force their views on the military. Author is a former US Foreign Service officer and Navy captain.
