MOHD Azzam Mohd Hanif Ghows

The Malayan Emergency revisited 1948-1960 : a pictorial history / Mohd Azzam Mohd Hanif Ghows, edited by Caroline Barber - Kuala Lumpur : AMR Holding, 2006 - 386 p. : col. ill.

Provides a good overview of the rise of Communist terrorism in Malaysia and the long and concerted effort made by authorities to stamp it out. The twin policies of "carrot and stick" and "hearts and minds" together with the coordinated operations of civilian and military forces eventually paid dividends and brought the insurgency to an end. What makes this book stand out are the hundreds of photographs plus images of other archive material such as newspaper cuttings and official documents. The author is a retired Lt Col who served 32 years in the Malaysian Army.
