<br/><br/> Several countries especially China Russia and Cuba have demonstrated that there may be an alternative to Western style democracy, thus challenging the "assumption that capitalism, the rule of law, and democracy go hand in hand". This article considers why this should be and asks whether such regimes are in a transition phase or are actually a stable alternative to Western style democratic government.
