Gives an outline of the historical roots of the idea of communism then focuses mainly on its dramatic rise and fall in the twentieth century. Notes that although communism has more or less collapsed its characteristics are shared by a wide variety of proponents of one-party one-ideology states, while the many wrongs that communism was meant to redress still exist in large parts of the world.
