<br/><br/> International politics is notoriously rife with misperceptions and the U.S- China relationship is particularly prone to misunderstanding.  In this case China's pessimistic perceptions have a number of disturbing implications, first Chinese officials who believe the U.S secretly opposes unification will be less sanguine about the prospects for peaceful unification with Taiwan.
