<br/><br/> According to this article the prevailing scholarly view on diplomatic initiatives in the Asia Pacific is that East Asia is evolving as a distinctive regional community. However it is argued here that the growth in official rhetoric actually obscures the reality which is that traditional interstate relations continue to hold sway and do not imply any move towards an integrated regional community.
