Argues that the USA needs to pay much more attention to constructive diplomacy, be more even handed in its approach to the Arab-Israeli peace process, be aware of the differences between the traditional Islamic core of the middle east and the rapidly developing countries of what used to be considered the periphery, for example in Southeast Asia, and recognise that the future depends on policies not battles.
