When military chiefs seized power in September 2006 it was hoped they would bring stability and security to Thailand. Since then attempts to meddle with the economy, bombs in Bangkok, the continuing unrest in the south, and suggestions the generals are not exactly keen to return control to civilians have raised doubts in the public mind about their intentions.
