It analyses how it has be restructured in recent times to take into account changes in the geostrategic situation, changes in avionics and weapons technologies and the requirements of the domestic economic perestroika. This paper sees the extent to which Soviet air power doctrine has been affected by the organisation and restructuring of Soviet Far Eastern Forces. It concludes stating the weaknesses and strengths of the Soviet Union's aviation arms in the Far East and reflects on the future relevance of air power as a factor in the maintenance of the USSR as a military superpower.
