The Philippines and Thailand are getting increasingly keen on waging war on domestic unrest. The Philippines communist uprising affects most of its provinces and has caused 40,000 deaths since it started in the 1960s. The Thai security forces have made things worse by handling the uprising appallingly. In the most notorious case in 2004 around 80 Muslim protesters were suffocated.
