Nuclear proliferation in Asia and missile defense /

The availability of nuclear weapons in Asia may create the temptation in some states in the region to develop first-strike strategies. This article considers the paradox of missile defence systems: coupled with defensive military postures they may help to reduce the risk of war, but in conjunction with preemptive or offensive positions they may contribute to instability and conflict.
