Enhancing maritime securirty in the straits of Malacca and Singapore - 2005

Discusses current security measures in the Malacca and Singapore straits, the risks of piracy and the potential risk of terrorist activity, quantifies the effect of closing the straits, and identifies some of the main legal security measures that are already in place. Suggests how these security mechanisms could be enhanced. The author is US chief negotiator for bilateral and multilateral maritime law enforcement agreements.
