Logically OPVs are designed according to their primary function which is essentially for civil law-enforcement in a nation's littoral and EEZ areas. Typically endurance and liveability are preferred over speed and heavy armament, although several navies (including Brunei) have opted for vessels that are frigates in all but name to provide multi-role functionality. This article considers some of the vessels currently being built or deployed around the world.
