The proliferation security initiative: making waves in Asia / Mark J Valencia - London: Routledge, 2005 - Adelphi paper. 376 .

The Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) launched by President Bush at a G8 summit in 2003, is intended to prevent the trafficking in weapons of mass destruction or their elements. Given that most global trade goes by sea the focus of PSI is on maritime interdictions and seizures. Despite some successes and the support of several maritime nations, PSI has been criticised on a number of grounds. This paper considers why PSI is important in Asia, the arguments for and against, and how it might progress.
