<br/><br/> This report attempts to understand why and how some issues are regarded as security threats, and how this translates into policy implementation. Three cases are considered: Thailand's securitisation of drug trafficking, Singapore's securitisation of piracy and maritime terrorism, and Australia's securitisation of people smuggling. The studies consider different levels or aspects of securitisation: the rhetoric used in each case, efforts made to achieve bilateral cooperation with the most concerned neighbouring states, and finally how each country also tried to obtain multilateral cooperation with thier policies.
