Net-centric before its time: the Jeune Ecole and its lessons for today
- 2005
The Jeune Ecole (Young School) set about to introduce a revolution in maritime warfare for the French Navy in the latter part of the 19th century. This article argues that its rapid rise and equally rapid decline provide lessons for those attempting to implement RMA's or military transformation in the present day. Suggests that in essence the Jeune Ecole was ahead of its time and that it "failed primarily because it attempted to do too much, was unwilling to accept criticism or allow dialogue, and misjudged the pace of change in warfare".
