Disaster risk management in Southeast Asia: a development approach

Country's need to take a long term view of the economic aspects of disaster management. The heart of such a strategy should not be loss-financing but aimed at development enhancement. Drawing on the experiences of countries affected by the Asian tsunami of Dec 2004, this article describes the characteristics of future disaster risk management programmes.
