Strategy, security, and the war in Iraq: the United States and the Gulf in the 21st century - 2005

The ousting of Saddam Hussein in the 2003 Iraq War demonstrated significant changes in American foreign policy, as well as the "transformation" of the military forces used to implement it. This paper argues that concepts such as forward basing could signal the beginning of a new U.S. global defence strategy that might see forward deployed forces around the world used with increased frequency.
