China expands its southern sphere of influence - 2005

China is developing mutually beneficial relations with Southeast Asian countries especially in the Mekong area. This article describes some of the recent infrastructure and resource development projects in which China is involved, and suggests that although the investment is welcomed, there are concerns about China's growing influence in the longer term.
