<br/><br/> Japan and South Korea especially have ample reason to nurture and expand new trade arrangements such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership and hence to work for a trilateral free-trade pact, with the eventual goal of reviving WTO multilateralism. Against this backdrop, the 10 ASEAN states and China, Japan and South Korea developed an “East Asian Identity” to mitigate future external financial shocks.
