China, international competition and the stalemate in sovereign debt restructuring: beyond geopolitics/ Shahar Hameiri and Lee Jones - 2024

This article looks at the development financing from China to sovereign borrowers which has turned into a burden. It surveys the literature on competition during the 'age of choice'. The article then provide an alternative account of the drivers of expanded lending, focusing on China. Finally the article shows how Chinese lenders' concerns , fragmented Chinese governance and western intransigence are stymieing debt restructuring.
