<br/><br/> Drawing on case studies from the Russian 'near abroad' this book shows that since the end of the Cold War, Russia has used peacekeeping actions as a means of extending influence. Shows also the influence of internal and external pressures on Russian strategy and concludes that the CIS is a weakening organization, that the cost of such operations may be too great for the Russian government to bear, and that military presence abroad no longer equates to Russian influence on its near abroad neighbours.
