DESOUZA Patrick J (ed.)

Economic strategy and national security: a next generation approach - Boulder, Colo. USA: Westview Press, 1999 - 402p.

Developed under a three year project by the Council on Foreign Relations, this book is intended to contribute to the development of American foreign policy in the 21st century. The approach is broad reflecting America's global influence and deals with such diverse topics as globalization, security in the information age, the developed and developing markets of Europe, China, Russia, and the America's. Notes, among other things, that America's technological advantages may ironically make it more vulnerable to attack, and that within 10 years (i.e. by 2010) the countries of the American continent will be more important in trade terms to the USA than both Japan and Europe combined. The latter point could lead once again to American insularity if not isolationism.
