Uses case studies of United States involvement in the Gulf War and South Africa's in the Angolan War to support the thesis that the application of classic principles of war not only lead to success on the battlefield, but also provide the basis for good decision making at the highest levels of government. Concludes that there is a positive relationship between proper use of the principals of war and successful results of military action. However it also concludes that battlefield success does not necessarily translate to desired political outcomes.
