A short account of soldiers and how they have evolved over 3000 years. Following a brief introduction there are two page entries for more than 60 different gropus of fighting men ranging from Assyrian archers, to vikings, to American Indians, to elite troops such as Spetsnatz and the French Foreign Legion. Each entry has an illustration, origin of the force, characteristics, nationality, location, and campaigns.
