Turkey lies at the crossroads of the Middle East, the Balkans, and Europe and as such has long held an important strategic role in the region. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, Turkey has faced a rapidly changing external world, as well as internal political and economic pressures. This book looks at some of the factors which may prevent Turkey from taking a wider regional role, and what the United States and Europe can do to assist both Turkey and promote regional security.
