Assessment of the politics, conflicts, security situation, international relations and economics of the first ten years of the new republics of the Caucasus region of central Asia. Concludes that after the low points of internal conflicts during 1992-1994, there are signs of improvement in terms of lasting ceasefires and improving economic links with Europe. However regional conflict remains the single most important factor in deciding whether economic and political developments will be sustainable.
