WALSH Lawrence E

Firewall: the Iran-Contra conspiracy and cover-up - New York: W W Norton & Co Inc, 1999 - 544p.

The author was the United States Independent Counsel who for more than 6 years investigated the complex operations and subsequent cover-ups which came to be known as the Iran Contra Affair. This book describes America's official and unofficial support for the Contras (anti-communist insurgents in Nicaragua), the involvement of Saudi Arabia, the attempt by President Reagan to secure the release of American hostages held by Hezbollah in Lebanon by supplying arms to Iran (against the wishes of the U.S. Congress), and the diversion of funds arising from these sales to continue support for the Contras. The main part of the book describes the efforts made to uncover these activities and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
