ANZACS, the media and the Great War
- Sydney, NSW, Australia: University of NSW Press, 1999
- 302p.
Using reports of Australian and New Zealand troops during the first world war this book shows how the media and in particular newspapers were, for the first time, used governments and military high commands as large scale propaganda vehicles. By the end of the war civilians and soldiers alike had become disillusioned by the misrepresentation and outright lies of the press, yet some media interpretations of events survived to become part of the image of the ANZACS.
