The story of Wake Island - Nashville, Tenn., USA: Battery Press, 1997 - 252p.

First published in 1947 this is the first hand account by the U.S. Garrison Commander of the loss of Wake Island to the Japanese, subsequent imprisonment, and its eventual recapture by American forces. As commander his instructions were to hold the island as long as humanly possible - which the tiny garrison did for fourteen days against bombing and substantial naval and ground forces.
