<br/><br/> In response to North Korea's nuclear weapons program, South Korea is quietly pursuing an independent conventional counterforce and countervalue strategy. This article focuses on South Korea's military response to this challenge and address the questions of: What is South Korea's strategy for managing the dual threats of a nuclear North Korea and potential U.S. abandonment? Is the strategy feasible and, if so, what operational and strategic complications does it present for South Korean decisionmakers? and how will South Korea's strategy impact strategic stability on the peninsula?
