Modern terrorism: motives of individual terrorists or the strategies of terrorist groups?/ Tim Höflinger - 2021

Analysing the literature on causes of terrorism and terrorist profiles one finds that there is little consensus over particular patterns in motivations. On a spectrum of variables ranging from the international to the individual level, academics have identified a multitude of factors that could explain terrorism such as socio-economic conditions, government behaviour, leadership, modernisation, religion, ideology, history, ethnic relations, conflicts, injustice, demographic changes and personality traits.
