Brunei : political leadership - 2021

It highlights His Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah (born 1946) succeeded his father as the 29th sultan of Brunei on 5 October 1967 and was crowned on 1 August 1968. He is now the second-longest reigning head of state in the world (after the UK's Queen Elizabeth II). The sultan also serves as prime minister, minister of finance, minister of defence, and foreign minister. This makes him by far the dominant figure within national life.
