<br/><br/> China has developed capabilities designed to deter to counter US military intervention in areas close to China.  The paper examines the broader strategic context for Chinese efforts to learn from the US military and develop weapons to counter it.  It assesses both the internal and external motivations for China's view of the United States as the pacing threat, including Chinese strategic threat perceptions.
