The future maritime security environment in Asia: a risk assessment approach/

Employing a risk assessment approach in identifying threats and challenges to Asia's maritime security, this article talks about the changing environment and balance of power that may affect maritime security. It discusses the minor and negligible threats such as marine pollution, piracy and armed robbery, trafficking and smuggling, natural disasters, man-made disasters, fisheries incidents, climate change, and cyber threats; and also the major and more significant threats which includes intruder submarine incident, maritime terrorism, WMD attack, and sovereignty clash. It then goes on to discuss the catastrophic threats due to regional conflicts or conflicts between nations. The article then concludes to suggest ways to mitigate the risks of the likelihood of the threats and challenges that have been addressed.
