The role of think tanks in the U.S. security policy environment/ Lars Nicander - 2015

This article focuses upon the role of think tanks within the security policy environment in the United States. More specifically, the sectors influenced by the changes are the National Security Council, the Department of State, the Department of Defense, as well as the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice when the issues involve strategic counter-terrorism policy. The basic intention is to look at the problematic question: what influence (direct or indirect) do the relatively independent/bipartisan think tanks have within the U.S security policy domain? This question immediately imposes the necessity of defining policy and discussing ways and means of measuring it. This is to be done not only through an academic's theoretical lens but also from the point of view of a practitioner.
