The third of the six new Project 636 (Kilo) class submarines building for the Vietnam People's Navy (VPN or Hâi Quân Nhân Dân Viet Nam) was floated out in August and delivered in November 2013. The fourth was handed over in March 2014 and ran sea trials in August. The sixth and final submarine was laid down on 28 May 2014. The VPN order was placed in 2009. The contract is probably larger than the US$2 billion claimed and includes the usual crew training and a standard weapons fit.
