N2  - The tendency to focus on human aspects of security is too limited. Chemical, biological and nuclear weapons as well as man-made disasters pose threats to entire biosystems of which humans are only a part. This article discusses in philosophical terms the need for a different concept, and proposes the idea of mundicide (world death). Illustrate the argument with a case study of large scale petrochemical pollution in Ecuador by Chevron-Texaco in the 1990s
